Privacy Policy

This privacy policy describes the processing of information provided or collected on any Elizabeth Dole Foundation (“EDF”) site where this privacy policy is posted, whether on our digital properties or on applications we make available on any third-party sites or platforms. It also describes the processing of guest information provided to us or collected by us by mail or offline in our physical properties, such as at our in-person events. We follow this privacy policy in accordance with applicable law in the places where we operate. In some cases, we may provide additional data privacy notices specific to certain products, practices, or regions. Those terms are to be read in conjunction with this policy.

Please keep in mind that when you provide information to us on a third-party site or platform, the information you provide may be separately collected by the third-party site. The information we collect is covered by this privacy policy, and the information the third-party site or platform collects is subject to the third-party site or platform’s privacy practices. Privacy choices you have made on the third-party site or platform will not apply to our use of information we have collected directly through our site. Please also keep in mind that our site may contain links to other sites not owned or controlled by us and we are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave our site and to read the privacy policies of other sites that may collect your personal information.

We know that you care how information about you is used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will do so carefully and sensibly. By using our Site, you are consenting to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

What types of information does EDF collect?

We collect your personal information in order to provide and continually improve our products and services. Here are the types of personal information we collect:  

  • Information you give us. We receive and store any information you provide.  
  • Automatic information. We automatically collect and store certain types of information about your use of our sites.  
  • Information from other sources. We might receive information about you from other sources, such as updated delivery and address information from our carriers, which we use to correct our records.   

For what purposes does EDF use your personal information?

We use your personal information to operate, provide, develop, and improve the products we offer to our customers. These purposes include:  

  • Purchase and delivery of products. We use your personal information to take and handle orders, deliver products, process payments, and communicate with you about orders, products, and promotional offers.  
  • Provide, troubleshoot, and improve our Site. We use your personal information to provide functionality, analyze performance, fix errors, and improve the usability and effectiveness of our sites.  
  • Comply with legal obligations. In certain cases, we collect and use your personal information to comply with laws. For instance, we collect sellers’ information regarding place of establishment and bank account information for identity verification and other purposes.  
  • Communicate with you. We use your personal information to communicate with you.  

What about cookies and other identifiers?

We use cookies, pixels, and other technologies (collectively, “cookies”) to recognize your browser or device, learn more about your interests, and provide you with essential features and services for additional purposes, including:   

  • Keeping track of your specified preferences. 
  • Keeping track of items stored in your shopping basket. 
  • Conducting research and diagnostics to improve our products and content.  
  • Preventing fraudulent activity.  
  • Improving security.  
  • Delivery content, including ads.  
  • Reporting. This allows us to measure and analyze the performance of our services. 

Cookies allow you to take advantage of some of our Site’s essential features. For example, if you block or otherwise reject our cookies, you may not be able to add items to your Shopping Cart or checkout.

Do we share your personal information?

Information about our customers is an important part of our business, and we are not in the business of selling our customers’ personal information to others. We share customers’ information only as described below:  

  • Third-Party Service Providers: We employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include analyzing data, contacting constituents, and processing payments. These third-party service providers have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes.  
  • Business Transfers: As we continue to develop our business, we might sell or buy other businesses or services. In such transactions, customer information generally is one of the transferred business assets but remains subject to the promises made in any pre-existing Privacy Policy (unless, of course, the customer consents otherwise). Also, in the unlikely event that Hidden Heroes or substantially all of our assets are acquired, customer information will be one of the transferred assets.  

How secure is information about me?

We design our systems with your security and privacy in mind by:  

  • Working to protect the security of your personal information during transmission.  
  • Following the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) when handling credit card data.  
  • Maintaining physical, electronic, and procedure safeguards in connection with the collection, storage, and disclosure of customer personal information.  

How can I manage or delete information about me?

You can remove and manage your information, including your name, address, and payment options by contacting EDF Data Support at privacycontact@elizabethdolefoundation.org  

What is the data, security, and integrity policy for my information? 

The security, integrity, and confidentiality of your information is extremely important to us. We have implemented technical, administrative, and physical security measures that are designed to protect guest information from unauthorized access, disclosure, use, and modification. We regularly review our security procedures 

What is the retention policy for my information? 

You may delete your account at any time, but we may retain information about you for the purposes authorized under this Notice unless prohibited by law. For example, we may retain information to comply with legal obligations.  

What about my child(ren)’s privacy? 

We recognize the need to provide further privacy protections with respect to personal information we may collect from children on our sites. Some of the features on our sites are age-gated so they are not available for use by children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children in connection with those features. When we intend to collect personal information from children, we take additional steps to protect children’s privacy, including:  

  • Notifying parents about information practices with regard to children, including the types of personal information we may collect from children, the uses to which we may put the information, and whether and with whom we may share that information;  
  • In accordance with applicable law, and our practices, obtaining consent from parents for the collect of personal information from their children, or for sending information about our products and services directly to their children;  
  • Limiting our collection of personal information from children to no more than is reasonably necessary to participate in an ongoing activity; and 
  • Giving parents access or the ability to request access to personal information we have collected from their children and the ability to request that the personal information be changed or deleted.

Is the privacy policy updated or changed? 

From time to time, we may change this privacy policy to accommodate new technologies, industry practices, regulatory requirements or for other purposes. We will provide notice to you if these changes are material and, where required by applicable law, we will obtain your consent.

California Consumer Privacy Act  

These additional disclosures are required under the California Consumer Privacy Act:  

  • Categories of personal information collected. The personal information that Hidden Heroes collects, or has collected from consumers in the twelve months prior to the effective date of this Disclosure, fall into the following categories established by the California Consumer Privacy Act:  
    • identifiers such as your name, alias, address, phone numbers, or IP address;  
    • personal information, such as credit card number;  
    • age, gender, or other protected classifications;  
    • commercial information, such as purchase history;  
    • internet or other electronic network activity information;  
    • geolocation data, such as the location of your device or computer;  
    • professional information; and 
    • inference data, such as information about your purchase preferences.  
  • Categories of personal information disclosed for a business purpose. The personal information that Hidden Heroes disclosed to third parties identified in the “Do we share your personal information?” section about consumers for a business purpose in the twelve months prior to the effective date of this Disclosure fall into the following categories established by the California Consumer Privacy Act:  
    • identifiers such as your name, alias, address, phone numbers, or IP address;  
    • personal information, such as credit card number;  
    • age, gender, or other protected classifications;  
    • commercial information, such as purchase history;  
    • internet or other electronic network activity information;
    • geolocation data, such as the location of your device or computer; and 
    • professional information.  
  • Right to request access to or deletion of personal information. You may have the right under the California Consumer Privacy Act to request information about the collection of your personal information by Hidden Heroes, or access to or deletion of your personal information. If you wish to do any of these things, please contact us at privacycontact@elizabethdolefoundation.org. Depending on your data choices, certain services may be limited or unavailable.  
  • No sale of personal information. In the twelve months prior to the effective date of this Disclosure, Hidden Heroes has not sold any personal information of consumers, as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act.  
  • No discrimination. Hidden Heroes will not discriminate against any consumer for exercising their rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act.  
  • Annual reporting for 2021.   
  • Access Requests. Hidden Heroes does not provide data access to any parties who are not employees of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation.  
  • Deletion Requests. In 2021, Hidden Heroes received [15] requests from customers to initiate the account closure and data deletion process. For [0] of these customers, their request was not fulfilled because the customer did not complete the verification process or canceled the request. The remaining requests were processed within a median return time of three days.
