Margaret Featherston, LCSW

Margaret Featherston, LCSW, joined the Elizabeth Dole Foundation in April 2026 as the Senior Case Management Advisor. Prior to that, she worked for 15 years at the Veteran’s Health Administration in a variety of programs to include Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom (currently M2VA), VA Homeless Program and Acute Care Social Work. For almost 10 years at the VA, she worked in the VA Caregiver Support Program (CSP) at the facility and national levels of the program. As a national CSP Program Coordinator, Ms. Featherston collaborated with VA South Central Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC) researchers and the Office of Suicide Prevention to develop, test and implement a caregiver feedback data-informed updated VA S.A.V.E. Training for Caregivers curriculum. As CSP Program Coordinator at her local VA Facility, Ms. Featherston spearheaded efforts to achieve the first recognition of the “Dementia Friendly Hospital” designation within the VA. Prior to joining the VA, Ms. Featherston worked to reduce family violence and sexual trauma, and she also provided mental health care in hospital and schools settings as well as medical social work in emergency departments. Ms. Featherston is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and holds a Master of Social Work degree with Cum Laude honors from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and a Bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Studies with Magna Cum Laude honors from Northern Illinois University. Mission-driven work that improves the lives of caregivers, Veterans, survivors and their families is Ms. Featherston’s passion. She loves to kayak, hike, bike, read, enjoy art, cook and travel. Being a grandma (“Lola”) is her favorite past time.
