Danielle Vincent
Danielle Vincent is a devoted caregiver and advocate, committed to supporting military families and strengthening resilience within her community. She is an advocate for family recovery, actively volunteers with Project Sanctuary, and served on her local VA’s Veteran and Family Advisory Board. Now, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services at Portland State University.
Danielle’s husband Steve enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served around the world. He deployed to countries such as Norway, Kuwait, Turkey, and South Korea. Over his decade of service, Steve was exposed to hazardous toxins on numerous occasions. A training accident and a series of traumatic events added to the list of injuries that he continues to live with, including C-PTSD, traumatic brain injury, substance use, respiratory issues, and chronic pain.
For more than 14 years, Danielle has been on the “roller coaster ride” of highs and lows that come from being a caregiver. The most challenging days came during periods of psychosis, discovery of substance use, and separation. At several points, she felt lost and unsure of what to do next.
Today, Danielle navigates her caregiving journey with stability and balance. In addition to enabling Steve to live semi-independently in his own home, she remains dedicated to her own personal wellness and emotional healing. Above all, Danielle’s devotion to their four children has fostered a deep, resilient family bond that serves as a source of unity and strength.
Reflecting on her experience, Danielle notes the deep purpose found in her role: “Caring for my husband has been one of my greatest blessings. It has opened my eyes to the incredible sacrifices our service members make while on active duty, giving me a much deeper appreciation for the dedication required to keep our nation safe.”
