What was your life like before becoming a caregiver?

Before becoming my husband’s caregiver, I was a foster parent for children and adults with special needs. I was busy balancing my career, church, and motherhood. I only briefly slowed down to win my battle with breast cancer.

How did your life change when you became a caregiver?

I went out less and usually alone. My interests took a backseat. I also walked on eggshells much of the time. Trying not to trigger my husband’s PTSD became a daily goal.

What have you learned about yourself as a caregiver?

I’m stronger than I once believed. I can extend the same grace to myself as I do to others. My prayers have power.
