September will be a historic month for military and veteran caregivers!

On September 27, the Elizabeth Dole Foundation will launch Hidden Heroes, a national campaign meant to recognize and support our nation’s 5.5 million military and veteran caregivers. Tom Hanks, our Campaign Chair, will join us in Washington, D.C. for a patriotic celebration of this landmark initiative. Tom Brokaw, a champion of our campaign, and other public and private sector leaders will join us on stage as new commitments to military and veteran caregivers are made.

During the Hidden Heroes Campaign, we will debut our public service announcements featuring Tom Hanks, calling the nation to action. The Foundation will also unveil a new website, HiddenHeroes.org. This website will be the premier gathering place for military and veteran caregivers and those who wish to help them. It will provide hundreds of carefully vetted resources and a secure space for communicating with other caregivers. The site will also offer specific ways Americans can support our hidden heroes.

We will announce the first wave of communities to commit to the Hidden Heroes Cities program, which is mobilizing caregiver recognition and support on a local level throughout the nation. We are working with each city which joins the program to assess the level of support available to caregivers and to plan a strategy regarding the gaps in support which must be filled.

The day following the campaign launch, the Foundation will team with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to co-host Empowering Hidden Heroes: Pathways to Innovation. This groundbreaking convening will bring together medical professionals from Mayo Clinic, subject matter experts, veteran and caregiver advocates, and caregivers themselves.

Look for more updates on these events in the coming weeks, including how you can be a part of them through live streaming and social media. I look forward to our continued work together, driving historic change for our hidden heroes.

With all best wishes,

Elizabeth Dole
