After working mortuary duty in Iraq, Andrea’s husband Lyod went into a downward spiral of depression that culminated in a suicide attempt. Loyd was diagnosed with chronic PTSD and later TBI, which has left him with balance issues and migraines as well as gastrointestinal, knee, back, and hip problems. As Loyd’s caregiver, Andrea manages his medication, coordinates his care, and assisting with daily activities. In the beginning, doctors told them that it would take “years of intensive psychotherapy” for Loyd to progress. Against all odds, they have made it farther along than anyone expected. Andrea has been a vocal advocate for wounded warriors and their caregivers.
