In April 2005, five months into his second deployment to Iraq, Debbie’s son Steven sustained serious injuries as a result of a roadside bomb near Fallujah. He suffered severe TBI that left him with vision impairment, hearing loss, and a partially paralyzed left side. He has survived more than 20 hours of brain surgery, with about 90 percent of his right frontal lobe being removed. Debbie not only supports her son but she also supports other Military Caregivers and veterans with brain injuries. She is a staunch advocate of veterans and military family issues.
